Sony Ericsson warned over high return handsets in UK

Sony Ericsson phones are continuing to boomerang, with as many as four out of 10 handsets being returned by customers. The C905 and C902 are the current handsets affected, and follow similar returns levels of the W910 and K850 in 2008. We previously reported returns at 30%, but retailers and operators have said the number is higher.

Most alarmingly for Sony Ericsson, retailers and operators have said they are taking a more rigorous stance on product ranges this year, and will not be afraid to turn down flagship handsets if there are doubts on quality.

A company spokesman said the C905 is the best selling contract handset, adding: ‘Some of the early stock that came in had problems, and it is this that has been in the market. With the new stock, the number [of returns] will drop fairly dramatically.’
